Why the plastic bag ban's a sham:

I’m all for conservation of resources, but I agree with Peter Gorrie on this one - the plastic bag ban in Toronto is ridiculous. People don’t use less bags, they just acquire them in different ways.

The article raises many points supporting this argument, although I think the following is particularly telling: Ireland has a 36 cent bag tax, but “even with it, the country imported more bags last year than in 2002, when the tax came into effect.”

Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

This is Grizzly Bear’s third album and I think it’s really good. It reminds me a ton of old, old Genesis. The guitar in Southern Point sounds like it could have been written by Anthony Phillips or Steve Hackett. Apparently Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead said on their last tour that Grizzly Bear is his favourite band. This is a good album.

THIS JUST IN: THE GARDINER NEEDS A HAT

A plan was revealed today to add a roof to the Gardiner Expressway that could be turned into a park with trees, bike paths, etc. This would essentially be a giant highway sized green roof in the middle of the city. There would be no snow covering the road in the winter time, there would be no decade long construction project to tear the whole highway down (which has also been proposed), and overall it would look pretty badass.

Toronto needs this. Other than the CN Tower, there are really no interesting “features” which are recognizable to people who are not familiar with the city. This would be something completely unique and cool.
