Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight.

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day….

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue….

Dan Gilbert

Majority Owner

Cleveland Cavaliers

____________________________________

Yikes. Not sure what to make of this. On the one hand, LeBron (just like any other free agent) has the right to leave and sign with whatever team offers him a contract. On the other hand, when you’re leaving a small market like Cleveland (which also happens to be his home town) and you’re arguably one of the top 3 players in NBA history, you’ve got to handle the situation delicately. Making the announcement he’s going to Miami in front of the entire country on a 1-hour TV special isn’t exactly delicate. I’m not sure if Gilbert is just fired up or if LeBron blatantly mishandled the situation (who knows what went down behind closed doors, what promises were made, etc.), but there seems to be quite a bit of bad blood brewing.

All this said, I can’t wait to boo Bosh next season when the Heat come to town.

UPDATE: Here’s how you leave a franchise: CLASS ACT

I’m pretty sure...

Japandroids - The Boys Are Leaving Town

I’m pretty sure Japandroids and I listened to the same music growing up. This is a current day band that sounds like the love child of 10-20 of my high school favorites. Some songs reek of Static Prevails era Jimmy Eat World, others of Braid, Superchunk, The Promise Ring, Cap’n Jazz and other Kinsella musical endeavors… I could go on but won’t. It results in a package that excites me in a similar way to Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin… a throw back sound reminisent of the Vagrant Another Day on the Street compilation days (aka the good old days).

In summary, if you’re like me and would still rather listen to Piebald or The Get Up Kids than “_____________” indie band of 2010, listen to Japandroids.

I took this on Friday in Lawrencetown Beach, NS. It’s a...

I took this on Friday in Lawrencetown Beach, NS. It’s a bit crooked, and taken with an iPhone, but It was -2C and sideways raining/snowing, so don’t hate. I was in Halifax for the weekend visiting my pals PSB and Stewie (aka Innez Da Future). Good times were had by all.

1) The design itself is in general hard on the eyes (my eyes atleast)

2) The advertising is becoming too “in your face”.

In terms of the design, in my opinion, nytimes.com is the benchmark for all newspapers from an ascetics and functionally perspective. latimes.com and wsj.com are good too. Thestar.com’s design is not even in the same league as these sites, but I see no reason why it couldn’t be.

As for the advertising, I know this heavily intrusive style can be found on many website these days (I’m talking mostly about the floating ads that cover up content). The problem is I just think it cheapens what I believe to be a pretty high quality product. The Star is a good paper in a big market; I don’t expect to see these types of ads here. And yes, trust me, I’m well aware that the newspaper industry (in its current form) is changing and everyone is trying to reinvent the way they make money. But still, I think thestar.com has to consider it’s brand here and the damage it may be causing.

My $0.02, take it for what it’s worth.

Old Yankee Stadium Demolition: 3/10/2010

Man, file this one...

Old Yankee Stadium Demolition: 3/10/2010

Man, file this one under “completely depressing”. This video just makes me sad. I mean, I’m not even a Yankees fan, and I only went to one game ever (although it happened to be the 7th last game ever, on a beautiful early Sept. day, against the Jays). Regardless, I appreciate the history of the place and, I don’t know, I just wish there was a way to keep it. I understand it’s not possible, but seriously… this video is a total bummer.

I love baseball. This is the most wonderful time of the year. Spring training is winding down, the weather is getting warmer, the birds are chirping… It won’t be long now before I’m sitting in the Skydome (err Rogers Centre) havings a brew and watching the boys of summer.

Opinions are mixed on the Jays’ chances this year. And when I say chances, I mean their chances of not totally sucking. They’re not going to be competitive, that’s for sure. However, I have a feel they’re going to be better than a lot of people think. Here are a few X-factors:

Starting rotation: The Jays will field a very young, inexperienced pitching staff on opening day. They will be counting on guys who have incredible potential, but have suffered from injuries in recent years resulting in prolonged stretches away from the game (Marcum and later in the season McGowan). However, while there are some serious question marks, I think the potential exists for this rotation to be very, very solid. Morrow has a massive amount of talent that he has yet to put together. Romaro and Rzepczynski have the potential to be very solid mid rotation type guys in a couple of years. Tallet will be back in the ‘pen where he belongs by June when McGowan is ready to return. I just reread this paragraph and I think I used the word “potential” 3 or 4 times… that pretty much sums it up. The potential is there and my hope is that this group will be able to put it together.

Travis Snider: This guy needs to get going this year. He is a serious masher and if he can figure it out in the majors, and if Lind and Hill can come even close to their 2009 numbers, the middle of the line up could be scary good. It would also provide one more bat for Wells to potentially hit in front of… because we all know he is pretty much useless if he doesn’t see quality pitching.

Outfield Defense: Who are the corner outfielders on this team? The Jays seem to have a serious lack of athletic, strong defensive outfielders who can also hit. Lind and Snider aren’t going to get the job done all season. Some type of solution is needed here. I guess the x-factor here is whether the Jays can get the job done despite the limited defensive talent in the OF.

Finally, offensive production at SS: McDonald and Gonzalez are above average defensive short stops. McDonald might be the best in the AL. The problem is, neither guy can hit. If somehow they can get some type of decent offensive production out of this position (like they did last year, although I’m not expecting Scutaro type numbers), that would be a massive help.

All in all, if 50% of these x-factors come true, the Jays will challenge for .500. This season will be all about finding out what the organization has in terms of young players and going from there. My hope is that two years from now, it will be obvious what holes must be filled, and alex anthopoulos will be able to do so via free agency or trade.

Regardless, I can’t wait for baseball season to get underway!

Ben Fold’s Chatroulette piano improv ode to Merton. For...

Ben Fold’s Chatroulette piano improv ode to Merton. For those who don’t know, Merton is a guy who made a video of himself playing songs for people on Chatroulette. His video has almost 4 million views on YouTube. You can watch it here.
